Koen Wessing born in Amsterdam in 1942 in plein World War II, and in 1957 influenced by the photographs of Ed van der Elsken decided that photography was to be his life's work. In 1961 became Elsken's assistant and just 2 years later became a freelance photographer and photographing throughout Latin America. His work largely concerned with oppressed peoples of the world and in particular of militar rebellions in Chile,Nicaragua, Cuba and Guatemala.
