When the traveller ends his journey with less certainty and more doubt than at the beginning, it means that he has not moved in vain. Abbas's many Islams seem to confirm this, leaving behind, along with the questions, a kind of ancient amazement, as if even landscapes and cities recover through faith a secret innocence of their own.

The Iranian photographer has, with the patience and humility of an ancient traveller, beaten the borders of a tumultuously expanding faith: from Mali to eastern China, from Uzbekistan to Indonesia, from Morocco to Pakistan, without forgetting the suburbs of European metropolises.
