Paris, May 1968. The city revolts. Students and workers block the streets and obstruct the passage of the forces of order, undermining the Hausmanian project of a militarised, concentrated city. Cobblestones, chairs, bicycles, rubbish bins, bars, cars, signs: the demonstrators used everything to redesign the city's architecture to their own advantage, with a view to clashes with the police. In this book with its extensive iconographic apparatus, Wolfgang Scheppe reconstructs day by day the events of that May that inflamed Europe, and through this taxonomy of barricades, he reconstructs the context of those riots, managing to trace not only their reasons and context, but also the perspectives and turning points they would take in the time to come.
