In the book's introductory notes, the spirit of this government book can be understood.
"In an official publication published in Madrid in 1935, one can read some manifestos directed by Largo Caballero to the workers, in which the Bolshevik leader advocates "the disarmament of capitalism and the general arming of the people as indispensable factors for the triumph of the revolution" and announces the need "to resort to savage acts, leaving aside useless sentimentalism...". These words give pause for thought to all those who today seek responsibility outside the Bolshevik camp: they represent the first sparks of the tragic fire that now ravages Spain, everywhere sowing ruin and horror. These pages give a precise panorama of the civil war and the military and political events through which it came about".
