The first general strike and street demonstrations in the Polish People's Republic, occurred in late June 1956 in Poznań. The protests were suppressed in blood by the army and militia, and the event itself was downplayed by the propaganda of the Polish People's Republic as “June events” or passed over in silence. Currently, some historians and participants also refer to June '56 as rebellion, uprising and Poznań uprising.
