The Polisario Front, is a militant organization and political movement active in Western Sahara, in order to achieve the realization of the right to self-determination.
The movement was founded on 10 May 1973 with the aim of gaining independence for Western Sahara from Spanish colonization and later from military occupation by Morocco and Mauritania.
Morocco, in order to counter the Polisario Front army armed and financed by Algeria and Gaddafi, builds eight walls of sand and stone, the Moroccan Wall, heavily undermining the surrounding area. The Polisario controls a virtually uninhabited desert strip of Western Sahara to the east of the walls. There are an estimated 10,000 militants.
