The events described in this book took place in January, February and March of 1986 as the junta permitted the re-emergence of the Tontons Macoute; and on Novembre 29, 1987 after a reign of terror that included hundreds of murders the elections, the embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of Haiti, were cancelled. On November 29, the polling booths of Port-au-Prince ran with blood. Reporters fled for their lives. Ordinary citizens proudly trying to vote were butchered in the polling places. The army either turned its back, or participated in the carnage. Up until that awful moment, the junta's greatest supporter had been the government of the United States.
