The action in Mardøla, 1970: for the first time man stood in the way of machines. For a month, villagers and environmentalists stop work on the energy development that will drain the famous Mardalsfossen.
The event becomes international news. Civil disobedience, nonviolence and eco-philosophy are given space in the environmental debate. The waterfall is not saved, but the action changes Norway: in 1972 the world's first Ministry of Environmental Protection is established and many waterways are protected.
Mardøla's action inspired subsequent actions, as in Alta. Today, environmental actions and the use of civil disobedience are more relevant than ever.
