In 1983, the Reagan administration initiated one of the most controversial military manoeuvres of the Cold War in the island-state of Grenada. It was a manoeuvre that lasted less than two months, carried out in the United States' monstrous backyard, Latin America, and conceived with the aim of reaffirming to the world the imperishable geopolitical affiliation of the western hemisphere.
The Reagan administration decided to proceed with the overthrow of the Grenadian government despite the opposition of the entire international community. For it was not only the members of the communist bloc who protested, but also the allies of Western Europe, the South American nations, which were overwhelmed by impressive demonstrations of solidarity with the Grenadine people - and the United Nations General Assembly, which condemned the operation with Resolution 38/7 of 2 November 1983, deeming it a blatant and serious violation of international law.
