In October 1968, on a farm in the city of Ibiúna, inland from São Paulo, about a thousand students were arrested by police forces for the congress that would put the National Union of Students (UNE) in the ground. Eleven years later, in 1979, the city of Salvador welcomed some three thousand students for the entity's first congress since 1968. On that occasion, photographer Milton Guran documented the congress for the re-foundation of the UNE and, unable to publish his photographic reportage on the UNE in the important press, independently published a book that became a landmark in Brazilian photojournalism.
