Images that are barely a reflection of a fleeting moment that has already passed, but which through the attentive and committed gaze of the photographer become a way of capturing forever a moment in the history of a people.
A tribute to all the photojournalists who, with their daily work, have accompanied the struggle for human rights over the last 35 years, and have been able to bear witness to the most important events in our country.
"the phrase no subject without memory, which appears as an unappealable paradigm inhabited by multiple meanings, proposes the constant exercise of reflection on historical identity.
For more than 30 years, the social, political and cultural leaders and activists, the relatives of the victims of State Terrorism and the survivors, have been implementing collective communication strategies that have changed the historical map of our recent memory, which today constitutes a living testimony of that struggle."
The books were published as part of the Programme Memory in Movement, Communication and Human Rights, which depends on the Secretariat of Public Communication of the Office of the Chief of Cabinet of Ministers, and which has among its objectives to encourage popular participation in the trials for the crimes of state terrorism.
The photos review the history of the country from the military coup of 24 March 1976 to 2011. The first is of the empty Plaza de Mayo in the early hours of 24 March 1976. The last one records the moment of the sentencing of Alfredo Astiz for crimes against humanity committed at ESMA, last October. The first marches of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, the inauguration of Raúl Alfonsín, the Trial of the Juntas, the Carapintadas uprisings, the repression of 19 and 20 December, former President Néstor Kirchner watching the then Army Chief take down Videla's picture from a wall, the moment when Antonio Domingo Bussi listens to his sentence.
The cover of the book is a photo from 30 March 1982: it shows the moment when photographer Román Von Eckstein is arrested by the police during the march against the dictatorship organised by the CGT.
